The Department of Geography established in 2002, has completed 17 year offering courses leading to B.A. in Geography Spl. Subject under the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. The Department technical facilities include, high power sky watch telescope, Computers, GPS, and GIS laboratory. The Department has very rich, experienced and dedicated faculty. Dr. S.T. Jadhav has awarded Ph.D. Degree in Geography under the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (22 March, 2019). The Department has “Bhugol Abhyas Mandal” of students, which arrange various activities such as a Geography Day, wall paper computation, Quiz Computation, lectures of resource persons, to develop inherent qualities in them. Our faculty has delivered number of lectures and present research paper in seminars, conferences and Journals.

Geography is a unique way of looking at the world and solving several problems in nature. 

Before joining a degree course, every student in any part of the world may be interested to know the career prospects of the subjects. Geography students are no exception. Geography is one subject which made the scholars of the world to explore, experiment and use various natural resources, analyse the climatic parameters and navigate everywhere. There are about twenty-five branches in geography. Almost all the subjects have suitable career prospects. Geography is one of the optional subjects in the state and central Public Service Commission Examinations (MPSC/UPSC) and all types of competitive examination, which select the best class one officers and civil servants of the country. Understanding geography can help people, governments and businesses to make better decisions.

The objectives of Geography Study

Any job related to geography, is concerned with spatial data or information pertaining to a location or a region. For any common person, the first kind of jobs coming to the mind may be related to making maps and charts. In fact, Geography today is a combination of art and science. Its scope and study are broad and comprehensive. Geography has well established itself as a science 

  • To enable the pupils to acquire a knowledge of natural resources.
  • To develop in pupils an understanding of how environment and climatic factors have influenced our life.
  • To adjust human life in accordance with geographical circumstances.
  • To develop scientific attitude and to develop the ability to draw valid conclusions and independent thinking.
  • To develop the creative talents of pupils and to develop an attitude of discovery in them.
  • To develop the skills of reading maps and globes, to develop drawing and measuring skills, and to develop the skill of using and manipulating geographical instruments.
